The US is mostly the eastern half.
The desert and mountain areas in the western United States is a stark contrast to the densely populated north east and, of course, California. Florida, too, is brightly lit as is the southern coastline. Even Hawaii shows a bright spot in an otherwise pitch black (or blue) Pacific.
